FirstHealth of the Carolinas Partners with Troy Medicare to Expand Access for Medicare Advantage Members
CHARLOTTE, NC — Troy Medicare and FirstHealth of the Carolinas today announced a new partnership that will enable Troy Medicare members to access FirstHealth facilities and providers as part of their in-network benefits.
Under the agreement, Troy Medicare members will have in-network access to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC, along with FirstHealth's broader network of physicians, specialists, and outpatient facilities across the region. Members can confirm provider coverage through Troy Medicare's provider directory.
"This partnership is a major step forward for our members in the Sandhills region," said Flaviu Simihaian, CEO of Troy Medicare. "FirstHealth has an outstanding reputation for quality care, and bringing them into our network means our members have access to world-class facilities close to home — with no surprise bills and no coverage gaps."
About FirstHealth of the Carolinas
FirstHealth of the Carolinas is a not-for-profit health care network serving 15 counties in the mid-Carolinas. Moore Regional Hospital, its flagship facility, is a 391-bed acute care hospital that has consistently earned recognition for clinical quality. The health system also operates a network of physician practices, outpatient surgery centers, rehabilitation facilities, and home health services that together provide a continuum of care for patients across the region.
Community-Anchored Network Strategy
For Troy Medicare, the FirstHealth partnership reflects its strategy of building a provider network that prioritizes the health systems and physicians that North Carolina seniors already know and trust. Rather than assembling the broadest possible network, Troy Medicare focuses on deep, collaborative relationships with community-anchored providers. Learn more about this philosophy on the About Troy Medicare page.
This approach is especially important in the Sandhills region, where many seniors rely on FirstHealth as their primary source of healthcare. Moore, Richmond, and Montgomery counties — core areas of Troy Medicare's service footprint — have limited provider options outside the FirstHealth network. By bringing FirstHealth in-network, Troy Medicare ensures that members in these communities can continue seeing their trusted doctors and specialists without disruption.
Care Coordination and Post-Discharge Support
The partnership also enables closer collaboration between Troy Medicare's Care Management team and FirstHealth's clinical staff. When a Troy Medicare member is discharged from Moore Regional Hospital, for example, the Care Management team receives timely notification and follows up with the member to ensure they understand their discharge instructions, have filled their prescriptions, and have scheduled any necessary follow-up appointments. This kind of post-discharge coordination has been shown to reduce hospital readmissions and improve long-term outcomes. Troy Medicare's pharmacy-first approach plays a key role in ensuring members fill their post-discharge prescriptions promptly.
Reducing Administrative Burden
Troy Medicare's commitment to reducing administrative burden for providers extends to FirstHealth as well. The company works to minimize prior authorization requirements, ensure clean claims processing, and maintain transparent communication about reimbursement policies. These practices help preserve the provider-patient relationship by reducing the administrative friction that often frustrates both physicians and their patients. Troy Medicare maintains full compliance with CMS regulations governing provider relationships and member protections.
Troy Medicare members in Moore, Richmond, Montgomery, Hoke, and surrounding counties will benefit from the expanded access beginning immediately. Members can access plan documents and benefit details online, or contact Troy Medicare with questions.
Building a Locally Embedded Plan
The partnership between Troy Medicare and FirstHealth represents another milestone in Troy Medicare's growth strategy: building a Medicare Advantage plan that is deeply embedded in the communities it serves, with provider relationships that reflect the local healthcare landscape rather than a one-size-fits-all national network.
